The objective of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the Backgammon board and bear those pieces from the board quicker than your challenger who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a match of Backgammon requires both tactics and good luck. How far you can move your checkers is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and how you move your checkers are determined by your overall playing plans. Players use differing plans in the different parts of a match based on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Technique

The aim of the Running Game strategy is to bring all your checkers into your inner board and pull them off as fast as you could. This strategy focuses on the pace of moving your chips with no time spent to hit or barricade your competitor’s pieces. The ideal time to employ this strategy is when you think you might be able to shift your own chips faster than your opposition does: when 1) you have less chips on the board; 2) all your pieces have past your competitor’s chips; or 3) your opponent does not use the hitting or blocking technique.

The Blocking Game Plan

The main goal of the blocking strategy, by its title, is to block the opponent’s pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your chips quickly. Once you have established the barrier for the opponent’s movement with a few chips, you can shift your other chips rapidly off the board. You should also have a good strategy when to extract and move the checkers that you utilized for the blockade. The game becomes intriguing when your opponent uses the same blocking strategy.
