The Essential Facts of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and good luck. The goal is to shift your pieces carefully around the board to your home board while at the same time your opposition shifts their checkers toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces heading in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at particular instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon strategies to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to shift his checkers, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely block any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if he/she ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of your competitor, your competitor does not even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you shift your chips and toss the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions in hope to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game plan uses different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game plan is generally utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the chips are moved is partly the result of the dice roll.
