In extraordinarily general terms, there are three chief plans employed. You must be agile enough to hop between tactics instantly as the action of the game unfolds.

The Blockade

This involves building a 6-deep wall of pieces, or at least as thick as you can manage, to lock in the opponent’s pieces that are located on your 1-point. This is deemed to be the most acceptable procedure at the begining of the match. You can build the wall anyplace between your 11-point and your two-point and then shift it into your home board as the match continues.

The Blitz

This is comprised of locking your home board as quick as as you can while keeping your challenger on the bar. i.e., if your opponent rolls an early two and shifts one piece from your one-point to your 3-point and you then toss a 5-5, you will be able to play 6/1 6/1 8/3 eight/three. Your competitor is then in serious calamity considering that they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have locked half your inner board!

The Backgame

This plan is where you have 2 or higher checkers in your opponent’s inner board. (An anchor is a position consisting of at least two of your checkers.) It must be played when you are significantly behind as it greatly improves your chances. The strongest areas for anchor spots are near your competitor’s lower points and also on adjacent points or with a single point separating them. Timing is crucial for a powerful backgame: at the end of the day, there’s no reason having two nice anchor spots and a solid wall in your own home board if you are then forced to break up this right away, while your opposer is shifting their pieces home, owing to the fact that you do not have any other spare checkers to move! In this situation, it is better to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position up till your challenger provides you an opportunity to hit, so it may be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your opposer to hit them in this case!
